Obituary

We celebrate the life of a remarkable young man taken from us far too soon.

Henry led a challenging life.  He had several significant health problems, including two heart surgeries, blood infections and two strokes, the last one leaving him partially paralyzed.  He took several medications and was in constant pain due to back problems.  The road he walked was a difficult one.

Instead of focusing on the difficulties today we celebrate this remarkable person and what he taught us in his short time with us.  While Henry lived with challenges he continued to live and enjoy life.  He worked, hung out with friends and girlfriends, skateboarded, drove his car, was active in online computer gaming, liked the beach, enjoyed both South Park and classic films, had begun dabbling in day trading stocks, and was well versed in conspiracy theories.  He maintained his sense of humor and could make almost anyone laugh with his impressions and sarcastic one liners.  He was an avid reader of current events and politics and did not hesitate to explain why you were wrong in your opinions.

He was devoted to his younger siblings, William and Olivia, and to his older sister Emma.

Henry grew up in the Bay Area, his favorite part of California.  In 2017 he moved to southern California where he worked in food service and was on the manager track when the second stroke happened.  Though diligent with his physical therapy, Henry never regained full use of his left arm and hand, making it not possible to return to that line of work.  That and the stroke's effect on his memory prevented him from realizing a goal of getting a degree in computer programming.

Henry leaves behind a grieving extended family and friends. We mourn his loss but are better for having had Henry in our lives, even for a short time.  He is an example of persistence and strength in the face of big challenges.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Henry's name to the hospital where his life was saved twice - Stanford's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital .
