Obituary

Born April 25, 1991, Herbert Alan Guiness passed away on August 31, 2015 at the age of 94 in Mission Viejo, California. He is survived by his beloved daughter Ava and step-son Andrew.

Herbert was born in Brookline, Massachusetts to Louis and Gertrude Guiness. After growing up in Massachusetts, he later moved to Los Angeles, California. It was in California where he met and later married the love of his life, Margarette Guiness. One of Herbert's greatest passion aside from enjoying his family, was aviation, as he piloted up to the age of 92. He also enjoyed sailing, traveling, all things electronic, karaoke, and was a voracious reader. Herbert was a treasured friend to many and had an undeniable sense of humor.

Herbert's patriotism to our country began at a young age, and never left his heart. His family and friends consider Herbert a true American hero. Because of his commitment to serve the military, Herbert always remained closely involved with many veteran groups such as the Freedom Committee in Laguna Niguel. Herbert was selected as a featured speaker at many veteran gatherings. Herbert was a dedicated docent at the William Lyon Air Museum for many years right up to the time of his passing.

Herbert served as a Captain in the US Air Force serving in both World War II (including the Italy Theater of Operations) and The Korean War in the 49th Air Division. His dates of service were from 1942-1945 and again in 1948-1951. During his time of service Herbert served in many campaigns including Ploesti, Vienna, Budapest, Munich, Monte, Casino and Salerno. Because of his passion in serving our country it is not surprising that Herbert earned many medals and service awards: The Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple heart, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Theater Medal and the National Defense medal.

Herbert will be buried next to his wife at the Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Everyone is invited to join in Herbert's celebration of life on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at McCormick and Son Mortuary in Laguna Hills, California. For more details click on the link provided below.
