Howard McKinley Obituary
Howard Lindsay McKinley, Jr., was born to Howard Lindsay McKinley and Mary Elizabeth Bruce McKinley on August 1st, 1938, in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, his master's from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and his PhD in astronautical engineering from Stanford University. He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, where he achieved the rank of colonel. After his military career, he worked at Northrop-Grumman for 17 years. He designed the navigation systems for the B-2 bomber (the Stealth Bomber).
Howard was known as "Lin" to family members, but his friends referred to him as "Mac." He had a curious mind, and pursued many hobbies, such as playing guitar, playing golf, and building model trains. As an avid reader, he especially devoured books pertaining to God's Word. Above all, he valued his relationship with God, his family, and his church. He taught Sunday School for decades, and served as a deacon and elder.
He married his wife, Linda, on March 19th, 1960. She was his lifelong friend and high school sweetheart. They were married for 65 years, and had three children: Lindsay (Sandra), Bruce (Shawn), and Alison (Stephen Bush). In addition, Howard is survived by six grandchildren: Daniel Bush, Nathan Bush, Joel Bush, Grant McKinley, Noah Bush, and James McKinley. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Luke, Timothy, and Titus Bush.
His celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, November 22nd at 9:30 a.m. at Reverence Bible Church, 22081 Hidalgo, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. A light lunch reception will follow. The graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Rd., Lake Forest, CA 92630.
