Hugo Mejia Chaparro, 65, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, passed away on January 28, 2015 with his family by his side. Hugo was born to Ricardo Mejia Montoya and Martha Chaparro de Mejia in Buga La Grande, Colombia, South America on January 24, 1950. He was the youngest of 4 children and graduated from the Universidad Libre de Cali with a degree in accounting.

Hugo married Sonia Saavedra on December 2, 1971 in Yumbo, Colombia; they were married 43 years. In December of 1979, he immigrated to the United States where he initially worked as an accountant, and ultimately a Machinist for 22 years. He enjoyed reading, writing, walking the beach with his long-life love, and watching soccer with his sons. He was dedicated to his grandchildren and did everything in his power to keep his family together.

Hugo joins his grandson Donovan Justice Mejia in heaven, but will be survived by his two sons, Alvaro Jose Mejia and Diego Fernando Mejia; his wife Sonia, his grandchildren Bronson, Brianna and Valentina; his sister Graciela; his nieces and nephew; and a legion of family and friends whom he greatly loved.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on February 4, 2015 at San Francisco Solano Catholic Church. Reverend Rudolph J. Preciado will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Kidney Fund who so greatly helped Hugo the last 14 years.
