Obituary

Ioana, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished member of the Romanian community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 76. She was surrounded by her loving family, including her devoted husband of 55 years, Michael.

Born on February 2nd, 1947, in the heart of Bucharest, Romania, Ioana was an only child who enjoyed a childhood filled with cherished memories. At 16, fate brought her together with her soulmate, Michael, and their love story began. They married a few years later.

During the early years of their marriage, Ioana wore many hats as an office manager and dedicated mother to their three children, Gilbert (55), Michelle (53), and Andreea (48).  She deeply loved her daughter-in-law, Tania (Gilbert's wife), and two sons-in-law Bruce (Michelle's husband) & Matt (Andreea's husband).  In pursuit of a better life for their family, they embarked on a journey that led them from Romania to the United States in 1982. They established their roots in various states, including New York, Virginia, and finally California, where they built a family business together.

Ioana's faith was evident in her active role within the Romanian Orthodox Church. She was a cornerstone of her community, serving on the church's management committee, preparing meals for church events, and extending a helping hand to those in need. Her faith was not just a belief but a way of life, radiating warmth and compassion to all those she encountered.

Ioana's greatest joy in life was her family and her presence was a constant source of comfort and inspiration to her children and grandchildren. Her role as a grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, Tyler (27), Maddy (21), Ryan (26), Chelsea (22), Chloe (16), Paige (15), Grace (14), and Sofie (12).

Ioana's warm and welcoming personality, her infectious sense of humor, and her caring heart endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Throughout the years, she forged deep and lasting friendships, creating a large community of friends that she came to think as family.

Ioana leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion. She was cherished by her family and community alike, and her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing her. In her passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and remember a woman whose love and grace touched everyone she encountered.
