Obituary

Irving Vogel passed away suddenly on April 15, 2015 from complications of Parkinson's Disease; he was 92. Irving grew up in depression-era Brooklyn, New York; the eldest of a large family who's parents emigrated to the US from Galicia in modern-day Ukraine. His early interest in aviation lead him join the US Army Air Corps where he spent the war training air crews. After the war, he went to college and acquired new skills including what today might be called "computer engineering" but at the time was almost completely unknown to the public at large. This led to technical positions at The Equitable Life Assurance Society, where he met and later married the Margaret McCusker. Irving and Margaret were happily married and raised three children together in Rockaway Beach and Oceanside, New York, and later Huntington Beach, California before retiring to Beaverton, Oregon. Irving spent most of his retirement doting on his grandchildren in Oregon and California and scouring garage sales. Declining heath obliged him to travel less; and he spent the last couple of years living with his daughter and her family in Southern California.

Irving was preceded by Margaret after 38 years of marriage. He is deeply missed by his surviving sons Walter Vogel and Richard Vogel, his daughter Margaret Brynjolfsson, his grandchildren Madisen, William, Mitchell, Megan, Alexis, and Nicole.
