James (Jim) M. Leather, 84, passed away on October 30, 2015 at home in Irvine, CA, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York on August 11, 1931, he was a proud graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Alma T. Leather.

Jim was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and special friend to many and will be greatly missed. In addition to his two older brothers, Peter and Robert, and his twin brother John, Jim is survived by his children and their families - Mari F. Leather of Wolfboro, NH, James M. Leather of San Diego, CA and Joanne L. Voorhees of Alpharetta, GA, his extraordinary grandchildren, George, Greg, Jennifer, Calvin, and Nicholas, and his wonderful great grandchildren, Jordan, Lacey, Lorelai, Logan and Patrick.

Jim found his true passion serving on the board of numerous neighborhood associations; as well as volunteering at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Hoag Memorial Irvine Hospital. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends. In recent years, emerging from a difficult time as a widower, Jim was blessed with the companionship of a special friend, Beverly Catt.

Funeral services will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Irvine, CA on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12 noon. All attending the funeral service will be welcomed by the family at a reception immediately following the service.
