James G. Macafee (Jim), of San Juan Capistrano, California, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2020 at the age of 81. Jim was born in St. Charles, Illinois, spent most of his life in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and moved to Southern California in 1990. He is deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Lenore Bouras Macafee, children James A. Macafee, Lisa R. Macafee, son-in-law, Ryan J. Persinger and four grandchildren, Ryann, Mason, Rowan and Locke.
Jim will be remembered for his deep love for his family, friends, former coworkers, books and cats. He worked for the U.S. Post Office, spent two years in the Army, and worked for over 25 years at Official Airline Guides in Oak Brook, Illinois, where he began as a programmer trainee and became a systems director. After moving to California, he and Lenore owned a pet supply store, Pet Junction, in Laguna Niguel for almost ten years, where he became a favorite of the canine browsers. After retiring he enjoyed volunteering for many years for the San Juan Capistrano Friends of the Library. He was highly intelligent, a gifted writer, and had a much-appreciated sense of humor. Jim enjoyed camping, sailing, canoeing, biking, folk music and most of all, being a loving grandfather.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163 (1-800-708-7644).
In his autobiography, "Seeking Bedrock", Jim stated "I have realized my highest hope, that I can believe that the world will be a better place because I have been here, and more important still, because my children, and now my grandchildren, have been here. Each of us has an ineffable spark."
