In loving memory of Jim Rohde, who passed away on the morning of Sunday, January 19, 2025, we celebrate a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication. Born on November 5, 1932, in Greenfield, MA, to Hyman and Leonora Rohde, Jim was the youngest of six children. His journey through life was one of purpose, teaching, and joy.

In 1952, Jim met the love of his life, Ceil Finkelstein, through a mutual friend. Their connection was immediate, and they were married on September 26, 1953, beginning a partnership that lasted for an extraordinary 71 years. Together, Jim and Ceil raised two children, Steve and Jeff, in the suburbs of New York, where Jim taught high school science in the New York City public school system for over three decades. His passion for teaching didn't stop with retirement, as he volunteered his time to share his knowledge of chess and nutrition with people of all ages, from children to seniors.

In 2010, Jim and Ceil moved to the warmth of southern California, settling in the Laguna Woods Village retirement community. It was here that Jim found a new outlet for his ever-present energy and joy—joining the Laguna Woods "Clown Alley." Through his clowning, Jim brought laughter and happiness to all those around him, embodying the spirit of fun and kindness that defined him.

Above all, Jim's love and devotion to Ceil was the foundation of his life. Their bond was a shining example of true partnership, a love that deepened with each passing year. Jim's life was one of giving, of teaching, and of loving, and he leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten
