IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jan Rusby
Tulinius
February 18, 1940 – August 31, 2022
Jan Rusby Tulinius, born February 18th, 1940 Pittsburgh PA, passed peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, August 31st, 2022 in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Jan was lovingly known as Beaver to his wife and his son Meatball, and Pappi to his other children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Jan married Dorothy on September 16th, 1961. Jan graduated from the University of Michigan in 1963, then they moved to Los Angeles, CA where they had 3 children: Jeff (Meatball), Kirsten, and Karen.
He worked for North American Aviation from 1963-1974, NASA 1974-1981, and Rockwell (now Boeing) from 1981-1995. He received many Awards for Achievements and Patents along the way. Retired in 1995 at the age of 55.
Jan's pride and joy was being known as Pappi to the many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was passionate about his classic cars and vintage motorcycle collection. He also enjoyed collecting art with Dororthy. His favorite thing to do was taking walks with Dorothy and Maggie (Wheaten Terrier) near the Ocean down in Dana Point, CA where they lived for many years. He was a big fan of the holidays; Thanksgiving and Christmas were always at the Tulinius Family home. Halloween Parties back in the day were also Legendary with Jan dressed up as Harvey the family Sheep Dog as well as other memorable costumes.
Some of the most epic memorable family events were long road trips in the family Volkswagen Van; 2 adults, 3 children, 3 cats, and 1 dog (with Meatball sleeping on the floor with the litter boxes). In addition there were a number of family dirtbike excursions that piled the family and motorcycles into the 1964 Chevy El Camino with Karen riding in the comfy seat right behind Jan.
Services will be held Sunday, September 18th, 2022, 10:00 am at El Toro Memorial Park in Lake Forrest, CA, followed by a Celebration of Life Luncheon at the Tulinius Family home.
