Obituary

Janett L. Davis was born July 31, 1932, in Oklahoma. She passed comfortably on March 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, she was 91. Janett's mother Minnie was a bit of a gypsy. They moved around during Janett's growing up years, OK, WA, CA and back again. They lived in California when she had her only daughter, Diane (Davis) McFadden. She married her sweetheart Jack Davis who was in the US Marine Corps. Jack, Janett & Diane moved to Cherry Point, North Carolina in 1955. In NC they enjoyed many outdoor activities especially around the water. Janett was an award winning, water skier at their boat club in Cherry Point, although she never learned to swim. She was quite active in many social activities on base.

Janett worked as a colorist for a photo studio in CA. All photos were in black and white then, if you wanted color, someone had to color photos. While living in NC she worked for the Dept. of Navy in the drafting department. Upon returning to California, she became a draftsman and worked for First American Title Company in Santa Ana, CA drafting maps of Orange County. She drew some of the original drafts of the freeways in and around the County. She eventually started working for OC Dept. of Education as an Instructional Aide with Special Ed. along with several of her lifelong friends, Ardis Law and Maxine Graves. Janett spent 25 years in education working with all ages, babies to high schoolers. She loved that job. On occasion she would take her grandchildren, Tara & Todd on field trips with her class.

Janett loved camping, she and Jack had a little 19' trailer they camped in for many years until eventually moving up to a motorhome. They camped with family and friends for years. She continued to camp with her family well into her late 80's. The holiday tables were always surrounded by family and friends that were family. She has passed that legacy on to her daughter Diane and son-in-law Jack. Many friends are family to her. Janett was very talented, crafty and had a super green thumb. She could grow just about anything. Her daughter has a huge stag horn fern she started 45+ years ago. She loved growing a vegetable garden too.

Janett & Jack moved to Oceanside upon retirement. She started going to water aerobics at Camp Pendleton Pool, where she met some very close friends. They would enjoy lunches, birthdays, celebrations, and the frequent casino trips together.

Janett moved to Park Terrace in Rancho Santa Margarita to be closer to family. She lived there for 3 years before her passing.

She loved seeing her favorite grandchildren, Tara & Todd, as well as her "surrogate" grandchildren and great granddaughter: Jesse, Laurie and Lilie and catching up with all their doings.
