Jeanne Elizabeth Truan died Monday, June 18, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living Center of Mission Viejo. She was 93.

The daughter of Preston and Ethyl Mae Hopkins Turner, she was born on September 28,1924 in Tucson, AZ. She spent her early years in southern California, graduating from Santa Ana High School in 1940, at 16 years of age. She continued her education at Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA, until her marriage to Basil Othelbert "Jack" Temple, Jr. in January, 1944.After WWII, she moved with her family to the midwest, living in Carthage and St. Louis, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; Dallas, TX, and New Orleans, LA, before returning to California in 1977, and becoming an active member of Leisure World retirement community, now known as Laguna Woods Village. In September, 1979, she married Harry Emery Truan on the tennis court, and during their 23 years of marriage, they sailed almost the entire world together.

For more than nine decades, Jeanne was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family and friends. She had excellent organizational skills, using her abilities to effectively plan tennis tournaments, host numerous parties and social events, and assist in her employment as an executive secretary for Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis.

Throughout many years of adventurous living, Jeanne was an avid reader, thinker and life-long learner. She loved to travel, and enjoyed food, cooking, music, art, swimming, horseback riding and ballroom dancing. She was also smart enough "to know what she didn't know!"

Jeanne played tennis for most of her adult life, not learning or even taking up the sport until her mid 40's. Her competitive spirit and interest in the game took her to tournaments, local, national and international. She won her last tournament, in Mexico,at age 82, playing doubles in the Women 55's.

During her retirement years, Jeanne was a member of National Senior Women's Tennis Association; a twice recognized Outstanding Member and President of the Laguna Woods Village Tennis Club in 1981 and 1982.She was an active member of the Aliso, Bridge, California and Equestrian clubs of Laguna Woods Village.

Jeanne is survived by three daughters, Nancy Temple Hawgood (Grant) of Charlotte, NC; Laura Temple -Tierre (Al) and Lisa Temple Highley of Laguna Woods Village; eight grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren, and three great- great- grandchildren, presently living in California, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Other survivors include residents and families of Sunrise Mission Viejo; care managers and staff, longtime friends and faithful volunteers who came to SMV to make each day a gift in itself, and another day worth living.A heart full of gratitude goes especially to those who did not forget Jeanne in her time of immobility.
