Joan Ligon, 90, of Laguna Woods passed away in the company of her children and grandchildren on February 16, 2025, after a brief illness.

Joan was born on November 11, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Henry and Josephine Nauman. After graduating from Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School, Pittsburgh, PA, she went on to further her education at several additional colleges and universities in Pennsylvania.

Her professional life as a nurse led her to Baltimore, MD, where she met and married her husband, Thomas Ligon in 1961. They had three children, Lisa Ligon, Laura Jumani and David Ligon.

While raising her children, she continued her professional life as a nurse, public health administrator, and community volunteer in Framingham MA. She did all this while enjoying gardening, decorating, and family vacations. In 2004 she moved to CA to be closer to her children.

Joan exuded warmth and inclusion. She is remembered with great love by her many friends in Massachusetts, Ivy Park Laguna Woods, and across the country. Her shining smile, boundless energy and fierce love will be sorely missed. Hers was a beautiful soul.

She is preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Lisa Ligon. She is survived by her daughter Laura Jumani and her husband David Jumani, her granddaughters Siena and Elle Jumani, and her son David Ligon and his husband Casey Nelson.
