Joan Marie Reynolds passed away at her home in Laguna Woods on April 1, 2022. She was 82.
Joan was born Joan Marie Mulvihill on January 31, 1940, in Newark, New Jersey. Daughter of Francis Mulvihill and Annette (Rondeau) Mulvihill, she had an older brother, Frank. In her younger years, she enjoyed ice skating, horseback riding and creative writing.
Joan attended Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange, NJ, where she met John Bernard Reynolds. After studying English at Montclair State College, Joan married John on August 19, 1961. They had five (5) children from 1962-66: Patrick, Michael, Jackie, Francis and Anne.
In 1969, the Reynolds family moved to Glendale, California. Friends and family knew her as a welcoming and gracious host opening her home to others. In addition to being a loving and supportive wife and mother, Joan also worked as a hospital administrator, and in the mid-1970's as a data analyst on JPL's Viking mission, the first spacecraft to land on Mars.
After John's passing in 2002, Joan lived her remaining years building a community of close friends in Laguna Woods. She was often surrounded by neighbors and her trusty chihuahua, Harvey, usually in her lap. She is survived by her sons, Patrick and Michael, and her daughter, Anne.
Services will be held at 10:00am on April 22, 2022, at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Mission Viejo, followed by a burial ceremony at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest.
