John Louis Cirrito, born January 11, 1944, in Neptune, NJ, passed on Thursday, June 8, 2023, in Laguna Hills, CA.
Born to Philip and Josephine (Gallo) Cirrito. John lived in Howell Township, NJ with his parents. He worked for the Freehold Branch of Monmouth County Library for 35 years. John earned an associate degree from Brookdale Community College in Middletown, NJ. He was a volunteer at a county home where he read to the blind. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. John raised funds for Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, NJ. He was also a member of the Monmouth County Historical Association.
John loved the Big Apple. He regularly took bus trips into Manhattan to attend plays, lectures, visit museums and meet up with his nephew.
After his parents passed, John moved to Northern California to be closer to his brother. John enjoyed spending time with his family and continued to do volunteer work. He loved to read and regularly visited the local library. He had a passion for American Revolutionary War History and continued his membership in the Monmouth County Historical Society.
John maintained lifelong friendships with his library colleagues and family friends.
In his later years, John moved to Southern, CA to be closer to his sister and her family. As his health declined, he moved to an assisted living facility in Mission Viejo, CA.
John will be missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his brother, Robert Cirrito, sister-in-law Sherry, niece, Andrea Cirrito, sister, Michaeleen (Cirrito) Mellevold, nephew, Chris Mellevold and his wife Julianna, great nephew, Philip John Mellevold, great nephew Jake Lillis, great niece, Sophia Lillis, niece, Regina (Mellevold) Frey and husband Mark, great niece, Gillian Frey, niece, Beth (Mellevold) Rogers and her husband Richard, great nephew, Damon Rogers, great nephew Ryan Rogers, and great niece Katherine Rogers.
Services will be held at St. Kilian Catholic Church, July 11, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. John will be buried with his parents at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold, NJ in August 2023.
