IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Ernest
Dimperio
November 26, 1952 – March 16, 2023
One of this world's great men died in the early morning hours of March 16, 2023, of complications from his cancer treatment. John Dimperio's life was marked by his witty participation in the human experience, his sincere empathy for those less fortunate, and his commitment to all who came within his circle of friendship.
John was born November 26, 1952 in Covina, California, to Ernest and Beverly Dimperio. He grew up with two older sisters, Diane and Susan, and a younger brother, Michael. He graduated from Bishop Amat High School in the spring of 1970, and in 1974 he graduated from the University of California, at Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, on his way to a business career as a Certified Public Accountant. As amazing as his college experience was during a time of awakening of American idealism, the most significant event of his time at UCSB was meeting his lifetime love, Tere Messinger.
John and Tere were married in September of 1975, and the couple moved to Laguna Niguel in 1986 with their young son Andy, and with Tere pregnant with their daughter Kristen. The family was staggered by Andy's diagnosis with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of five, and then by the young man's death at the age of nineteen.
Despite his deep sadness, John came away from the tragedy with something of a strengthened commitment to the plight of his fellow human. He knew what pain was, and he seemed to understand that his task henceforth was to help ease the pain of others. And he did just that, not in front of newspapers, or before crowds at charitable functions, but rather subtly in his engagement with everyday people.
John always loved the simple things in life. He loved baking bread and making pizza. He played sports for the fun of it. He loved the Dodgers and the joy of a spring day at the start of baseball season. He loved just hanging with friends and family, while always bringing a laugh, and usually at his own expense.
John never sought praise. He never pursued fame, wealth or station. He was never petty, and he simply wouldn't buy into the divisiveness of our modern day. John's definition of success was in helping someone else achieve a goal. He was the rock of stability in the accounting department he ran at Anastasi Construction Company for 27 years, and he was the fount of humble wisdom and unity to his family, friends, and work associates.
John Dimperio was a man, who by any meaningful standard, would be considered great, even though he would scoff at any of us who would suggest such a thing about him. He will be much missed, as he was and is, always loved.
A funeral service for our friend will be held at St. Timothy's Church in Laguna Niguel at 10:00 A.M. on April 22, 2023. Internment at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest will follow after the service, and friends and family will celebrate John's life at the Dimperio home after internment.
