John Metchikoff was born on January 31, 1948 and passed away on August 9, 2015 at the age of 67 in Laguna Hills, California. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons Adam and Jarrod and his daughter Allison as well as his sister Janice, sister-in-law Annette and many much loved nieces and nephews and cousins.
John was born in Los Angeles to his parents John and Nell and grew up in Montebello. He attended Montebello High School and graduated from Long Beach State College. In 1976 he married his wife Kathleen and moved to Mission Viejo in 1979 where they raised their three children. John worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 2008.
While at the post office he was involved as an officer of the local union making many lifelong friends. John's interests were varied. He enjoyed all sports, his passion being baseball (forever a Dodger fan) horse racing, fishing and of course cooking. But his greatest joy was coaching his sons and many of their friends in baseball, basketball and soccer. John was an exemplary coach for many years and to this day many of his former players still call him "Coach".
John will be missed by all.
