IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John William
Phillips Jr
October 1, 1927 – April 22, 2024
John William Phillips Jr., born October 1st, 1927 in Rhonda, North Carolina, passed peacefully surrounded by family on April 22nd, 2024 after a brief stay at Saddleback Memorial Hospital. John was a loving and generous man who dedicated his life to loving his family and friends and building his business.
As a young man, John joined the U.S. Navy during WW2 in 1945 and completed his training just in time for the war to conclude. After his enlistment period ended, he was honorably discharged but joined once again to serve his country during the Korean War. He was a proud seaman who served on the U.S.S. Intrepid and made sure to regale his family with all the tales from his time as a proud member of the U.S. Navy.
After his service to his country, John moved to Southern California with his new bride Margaret Undeiwood Phillips following their nuptials on January 30th 1954 to start a new life:They had 2 children, a son, John Michael (1955) and a daughter, Julia. Unfortunately John Michael was born with a congenital heart defect and passed away only two weeks after his birth. There is comfort in knowing that John has now been reunited with his first born son.
John's pride and joy beyond his family was the building of his family business, Alicia Air Conditioning. He wasn't a man who believed in the term "retire". Up until just a few weeks before his passing, he was still coming into his office and involving himself in the workings of the company. He cherished the employees who made his company successful almost as much as his own family.
He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Margaret L. Phillips, daughter, Julie Stephenson, three granddaughters, Rebecca Perez (Bryan), Christine Hoisington (Aaron) and Rachel Stephenson, five great-grandsons, Parker, Owen, Colton, Lucas and Sammy. He also leaves behind his sister, Nancy Wyatt.
John was pre-deceased by his parents, John W. Phillips, Sr. M.D., his mother, Jessie, and his sister Jessie Midler.
He was known lovingly as Pa by his daughter and Papa by his granddaughters. He will be missed by those who knew him.. He took care of everyone around him and made sure to share a joke with you while you were there.
