John Paul Riordan passed away Saturday, August 20 th , 2022 in Laguna Hills, CA surrounded by his loving daughters. John Paul Riordan was born December 23rd, 1940. He attended elementary and high school in Milwaukee graduating in 1958 from St. John's High School. His education continued at St. John's University in Collegeville, MN graduating in 1962. He then attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO, obtaining his Master's Degree in sociology in 1964. Following his graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army serving at Fitzsimons Army Hospital Denver, CO, and at the 93rd Evac hospital in Vietnam. In 1966 he married Arlene Asleson, and to this union were born four children, Michael John, Laurie Jean, Lisa Marie, and Lynn Elizabeth.
John worked as a psychiatric social worker in Anoka, MN, and in San Diego, CA. He was employed with the County of San Diego for 30+ years. After retirement, he traveled everywhere, with the majority of his trips to Williston, Boston, and Orange County to see his children. He loved to Cruise. Loved to attend theater and volunteer for theater events.
After retirement, John found senior softball, where he would play 3-4 times a week. He was dedicated to batting practice and weekly games. His pride was that he was the runner for his teammates because he was the fastest.
John moved to Orange County in 2010 to be closer to his children/grandchildren. John's #1 pride was his children. He was a very dedicated father and grandfather. Everyone who knew him, knew that! He had a profound effect on all those he touched. He was highly involved in all his children and grandchildren's activities. His children and grandchildren were his everything. He was a second dad to many!
John is survived by his three daughters, Laurie Gustafson, (Richard), Williston, ND; Lisa Riordan, San Clemente, CA; and Lynn Riordan, Aliso Viejo, CA. Four grandchildren, Sarah Jean (Zach Nelson), Williston, ND; Jocelyn Marie (Sammy Herslip), Minot, ND; Dylan Jeane Bruette-Riordan, Aliso Viejo, CA; Haven Marie Riordan, San Clemente, CA; twin Great grandchildren, Michael Christopher and Sophie Jean, Williston, ND. His sister Kathleen (Dan Lehr) of Washington, nephew Donald Lehr of Texas and Kimberly (Martin Pierret) of Washington.
John was preceded in death by his parents and son Michael John.
