Obituary

John Bartholomew Seymour was born on February 6, 1943 and passed away on October 21, 2016 at the age of 73 in Laguna Niguel, California. John is survived by his wife, Donna Link Seymour, his children; Matt Seymour (Lynn), Heather Seymour Trzaska (Clint), Dan Seymour (Jennifer), and Scott Seymour (Nicole), his grandchildren; Taylor, Blake, Maxton, Kyra, Gavin, Lincoln, Addison, Sebastian, Brant, Sadie and Emerson, and his siblings; Rick (Kathy), Mary (John), Paul, and Mark (Peggy).

John was born in Dearborn Michigan to his parents, Bart and Jane Seymour. He attended Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, Michigan where he excelled as an all-around athlete. So much so, that he was recently inducted into the Shrine High School Hall of Fame as an Inaugural Member. His football prowess gave John scholarship offers from many top schools in the country. John would proudly choose to attend and play football for the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, a decision that would forever shape his life and that he cherished deeply. His injury plagued college football career was legendary nonetheless, culminating with over 100 yards rushing in the 1964 Army victory over Navy in his final game. In 1965 John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. After graduation, he attended Airborne and Ranger training before being ordered to Vietnam in August of 1967. He was assigned to the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Air Cavalry Division where he would serve as Captain during his tour.

In 1965 he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Patricia Link, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They lived there with their four children until 1976 when they moved out west to Irvine, California. In 1998 John and Donna moved to Laguna Niguel, California where he lived the remainder of his life.

John Seymour was larger than life. He was a loyal and loving husband, supportive, caring father, he was his grandchildren's favorite person, their Papa. He found such joy in all eleven of them. He was a family man above and beyond everything else. Taking care of his family and keeping them safe was the most important thing in this world to him.

John loved to golf with his wife and his many friends. All those that knew John loved him. He was an extraordinary story teller, a prankster, a listener and a gentle soul. He was generous and kind. He loved to entertain his friends and family, he was funny, charming, and always a gentleman. He was happy. He had a blessed life and he was loved dearly. The world is a smaller place without him in it. John will be tremendously missed by his family and friends, but he will never be forgotten.
