"Grandpa" John D. Walter or Iouanis Walter, was born on June 07, 1943 and passed away on December 19, 2016 at the age of 73 in Lake Forest, California. His life will be forever remembered and cherished by his wife of 50 years, Suhle Thomas Walter; their 7 children and their spouses: Euclene T. Walter, her 4 children; Dona-Lyn Walter (Patrick Bailey) their 2 children; Madsy Lyn Walter (Mike Welly) their 2 children; Daisy Walter Ladorre (Martin Ladorre), their 4 children; Hainrickson Walter (Mihna) their 3 children; John Walter Jr. (Maxine) their 3 children, and Andromeda Walter, her 3 children. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Pedronio, Wilbur, Higinio Walter, 3 sisters: Emeliana, Rose, Delphina Walter, and countless loving nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Madilde Walter, father Danis Walter, Brothers Andreas Walter, Nihlo Walter, Hugolino Walter.


John was born on the island of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to Danis and Madilde Walter.In 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Suhle Thomas in Pohnpei, Micronesia. John lived and raised his family on Pohnpei for many years and in 1988 made the brave decision to move his family to Lake Forest, California to offer his children the opportunity for a better life and where he made his permanent residence.


John loved cooking, gardening, and traveling all over the United States visiting his extensive family. John was also a wonderful father figure to many of his nephews, nieces and his friends children. Most children (whether family related or not) called him "grandpa", a title he wore with honor. He was a proud man who raised his children to embrace his cultural customs and discipline. He was a wonderful listener with an equally wonderful sense of humor. John adored his children and grandchildren and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.


Funeral service will be on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00pm at McCormick & Son Mortuaries at 2500 Moulton Parkway Laguna Hills, Ca. 92653 with a burial immediately following at the El Toro Memorial Park at 25751 Trabuco Rd. Lake Forest, Ca. 92630. Visitation will be at 4:00pm on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 24732 Alanwood St. Lake Forest, Ca. 92630
