Obituary

Jonel Konstantin was born in Barice, Banat (Serbia) on June 29, 1942 and passed on September 19, 2024, at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills. Jonel had been sick for several months prior to his final hospitalization on September 3rd, 2024.

While in Serbia he spent two years in the Yugoslavian Army and then lived with his mother and brother before leaving for a better life. He immigrated to the United States in 1968 to New York City and soon made arrangements to bring his mother for a visit. He had a very strong work ethic and strove to take advantage of the opportunities this great country afforded him.  He then met and married Georgina, who had 9 children of her own. Together they made a home in Chicago, Illinois for themselves and the new family, and later moved to California.

Jonel was a devoted husband to Georgina and cared very much for her wellbeing as they grew older. She was his top priority. Later they were able to travel together to the pacific north west and various parts of the US, including Hawaii which was a favorite destination. Jonel also  loved his extended family and cousins and he went out of his way to be hospitable whether friend or family and make you feel welcomed. He also loved and cared for his immediate family very much. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of all their accomplishments.  He also never forgot a birthday and made it a point to take the time to call each of the kids on their special day and instead of a "hello" you'd hear a heartfelt rendition of the "ENTIRE" Happy Birthday song. He had a great singing voice, as well.  Jonel was very personable and loved meeting new people and socializing.  While in retirement, he was quite good at playing billiard, and participated in and won many tournaments and  trophies. He enjoyed working out at the gym, and helping new clients when he became a California Realtor. He made friends wherever he went and was well liked. Jonel had a very generous and compassionate heart towards those less fortunate and many times was moved to spontaneously empty his wallet over a situation that moved him deeply. We will all miss Jonel very much.  We are grateful for his presence in our lives.

Jonel is preceded in death by his mother, Danica, his father, Jon, and his brother, Paia and his step-son, Jon.
Jonel is survived by his wife, Georgina and step-children, George (Anka), Lela, Marissa (Jeff), Ellie (Steve) Jeannie (Mike), Susan (Eric), Marianne (Paul), Dori (Chad). Grandchildren, Stephanie(Thorsten), Veronica(Pat), Steven, Jonathan, Grant, Ryan, Sarah Mathew, Kylie and Great GrandDaughter, Lina and Sophia.
First cousins include Rade Konstantin and wife Zlata and family of New York, Vera and her husband Jake Gucu and their family of Pennsylvania  as well as the aforementioned Anka (George) of Chicago.
