Joseph Wah Sun Ng, Jr., born November 3, 1975 in Honolulu, Hawaii, passed on Monday, December 28, 2020 in Downey, California. Joe was married to the love of his life, Yvonne J. Ng, and was a proud, loving father to Kaitelynn L. Ng and Ava A. Ng. He is survived by his mother, Maxine C. Ng, and siblings Omi Gomez, Miki Kaneshiro, Sharon Chun, Leila Arrants, Diane Gohier, Jimmy Kaneshiro, and Clayton Ng.Joe was lovingly known as "Big Head" by his older siblings and cousins. He was blessed to be Godfather to Angelo Gutierrez and Kaimana Bailey, and was affectionately known as "Uncle Joe" to his friends' children; he was an amazing Uncle to his nieces and nephews, as well.
Joe was proud of his Hawaiian heritage and it showed in his love and respect for his ohana. He had friends and family in many states and countries, and anyone would agree that distance and time was never felt when you spent time chatting with Joe. He spoke fondly and often of his siblings, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His friends were like his family. Simply said, if you were a friend of Joe's, you knew you were loved.
Joe met Yvonne in Long Beach, California thirteen years ago where they had an instant connection; in each other they found a life of love, comfort, and happiness. They have been by each other's side ever since.Their love was inspirational for those fortunate enough to be around them. They were truly soulmates, and together they made a beautiful life and family. They shared many wonderful memories that included adventures of road trips, travel and lived a life filled with love for each other. Together they kept their hearts safe.
A devout, Christian man, he attributed his faith in helping him through trying times and for guiding him to live a life of purpose and contentment. An upstanding man of service, he was very involved with Boys & Girls Clubs and was active in setting up after school programs for underprivileged children at the Nickerson Gardens Public Housing Site. As a man who lost his own father at a young age, he understood the importance of nurturing self-esteem, self-reliance, happiness, and security in every child he came across, and aimed to share these ideals with his daughters.
More recently, Joe was lovingly referred to as "Dance Dad" as he was so prominent volunteering for Ava's ballet dance company. The pride he felt was so evident in the photos, videos, and stories he would share of his baby girl's ballet lessons and performances. He prided himself in giving his daughters opportunities that could not be afforded to him.He was amazed at his oldest daughter, Kaitelynn, and her accomplishments from earning her sailing certification to attending Cal State East Bay on a full scholarship, and always held in his heart that she would go on to do great things.
Joe loved good food, friends, family, cars, and his slippahs (flip flops). He always greeted you with a hug. He never met a baby he did not want to hold (and would, all day long). He loved his pets (especially Chucky). He loved his sports teams Notre Dame and Dodgers. He loved country music, movie nights with his girls, and never missed a chance to laugh out loud. He brought his joy, laughter, love, and kindness to those he met. You can say he was a true gift, and he made the world a better place.
A hui hou, dear Joe. May you be greeted with loving arms by your Dad and your Uncle Morris. May Bayr and Jackie run circles around you in glee. May it always be a beautiful summer day…
