Obituary

Joyce was born in Salford, Manchester to loving parents Ernest and Elsie Gresty. She grew up with older brother Ken and eldest sister Norma, both whom She looked up to and they always looked out for her. She sadly lost Ken at age 19 in the Battle of Britain during World War 2. Mum followed her older Sister into the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during WW2 and they both served proudly. Norma settled in Canada for a new life but passed away unexpectedly in 1948. However, the memories of both her siblings were always strong and our Mum would regularly tell us stories about her childhood and the adventures they would all get up to.

Joyce met her future husband Colin at the famous Parker's restaurant in Manchester. They soon started dating and married in 1950. They lived for a while in the Manchester area, but then re-located down to Yeovil in Somerset where Colin was test pilot for Westland Aircraft.

Joyce and Colin had two sons, Simon born 1961 and Paul in 1965. We were always a very close family, enjoying our time together whether traveling, going to the beach or just staying at home watching television together. There were some challenging times ahead in the aircraft industry and as a family we moved to different locations from the Isle of Wight, Connecticut USA, Manchester again and finally back to Yeovil.

Joyce always lit up a room and loved to share a laugh. We always tried to find humor in every situation and She was not afraid to laugh at herself. She loved her chardonnay and cigarettes, indeed we joked that it could be the title of her autobiography!

Joyce had a passion for movies and inspired her sons to start their business selling movie memorabilia. It made us very proud that she eventually joined us to work in the business from 1983 onwards and Dad joined us a few years later.

Joyce's first grandchild James was born in 1995 in Laguna Beach, California. James was educated in England for many years and lived just a couple of miles away from Mum and Dad. She loved to have the family around her.

Paul then married Karen in New York in 2000 and not long after Joyce's Granddaughters were born, Sophia in 2001 and Madeline in 2005. We all loved being together in England and treasure the happy memories. Whether sharing a family Christmas or summer afternoon in Joyce's garden, playing and having fun together.

Joyce and Colin loved to cruise together and had some wonderful experiences, whether cruising the Mediterranean or going down the Norwegian Fjords. They just really enjoyed having a different view from their cabin each day and relaxing together, taking it all in.

After Colin passed away in 2010, Joyce made the bold decision to come and join her sons and family in California, marking a whole new chapter in her life. It was a truly great decision and we all delighted in having her so close to us and all the children. Mum lived with Simon at his home in Dana Point with his partner Marta and son James and thoroughly enjoyed life surrounded by their two dogs and five birds and the wonderful comfort of family close by. She really enjoyed going out to restaurants for lunch and experiencing the California lifestyle and frequent barbecues at nephew Nigel's home in Laguna Beach. She really touched everyone's lives during her California adventure, not least her three beloved Grandchildren, extended Parker family, Paloma, Ela Al & Elyse. She was so proud of James' achievement going to Berkeley, Sophia's great success playing soccer for her Dad's team and little Maddy's love of dance.

Joyce loved life, sport, friends, food, wine, cigarettes and most of all family. We will all miss her tremendously, but She will remain in our hearts and thoughts forever.
