JÓZEF ZBIEGIEŁ passed away on October 26, 2015 at the age of 83 in Laguna Niguel, California. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Zofia Zbiegieł, and three sons Piotr (wife Urszula), Mirosław (wife Barbara) and Zbigniew. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Piotr Jr. (wife Melissa), Michael (wife Rosa), Zofia, Tomasz and Apolonia and seven great-grandchildren Annabelle, Joseph, Lydia, Filomena, Richard, Olivia and Walter.

Józef was born on March 11, 1932 in Rajsko, Poland to his Roman Catholic parents Anna and Tomasz Zbiegieł. Józef spent his youth in Rajsko, Poland and later moved to Kamienna Góra. He proudly served in the Polish Army, worked as a coal miner, a restaurant manager, and in a shoe factory. On April 14, 1952 he married his lovely wife Zofia and in 1972 he emigrated with his family to the United States and settled in Chicago, IL. He and his wife later moved to the warmer climate of California where he worked as a machinist making parts for the airline industry until his retirement, living in Alhambra, Downey, and finally settling in Laguna Niguel.

Józef loved the California climate the most and spent his time gardening by growing fresh fruits and vegetables that he would always send to family back in Chicago, watching sports (his favorite being soccer), and reading. Józef was a treasured friend to many in Poland and in the United States. He was a religious man and his home Parish was Our Lady of the Bright Mount Parish (Parafia Matki Boskiej Jasnogórskiej) in Los Angeles. Later in his life he attended church services at Saint Timothy Catholic Church in Laguna Niguel. Józef was very proud that his countryman John Paul II has been declared a saint by the Roman Catholic Church during his lifetime.

Józef was a hard worker who, as a child, experienced WWII which taught him how to be a survivor. In later years he learned how to cook and shared his new passion by cooking for his wife Zofia every day. Józef was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Saint Timothy Catholic Church on November 2, 2015 at 10 AM.
