Judith Ann Akana was born on April 11, 1955, and died on September 3, 2015 in Fountain Valley with her family and friends by her side. She was 60 years old. She is survived by her husband, Alan Akana, her parents Henry and Cynthia Shin, and her brother and his family, Greg and Colleen Shin. Judy and Alan never had any children of their own, but they had 21 grandchildren they considered their own!
Judy was born in Hawaii in 1955, the youngest of the family of four. Henry and Cynthia moved the family to California when Judy was nine, and she resided in southern California since then. Judy graduated from Banning High School in 1973, and married the love of her life, Alan, on August 19, 1978. Her career soared in the Homebuilding business of interior design. She managed Design Centers for 30 years for various homebuilders, including Kauffman and Board, Centex Homes, and Ryland Homes. In this industry she met many colleagues who became lifelong friends.
Judy battled breast cancer for 20 years never letting her diagnosis get in the way of living out her life and dreams. Judy dedicated her life to her family, faith and her career. She poured her heart and soul into many hobbies and talents including baking, party planning, cooking, crafting, flower making, and jewelry making. If there is one thing that could be said about the life of Judy, it is that she lived to see the happiness of others. Anyone who had the fortune to be with her during the holidays can attest to her ability to bring people together and create truly special memories. She loved her family dearly and committed herself to making people, especially her family, happy.
The Susan G. Komen charity held a special place in Judy's heart as they empowered women and men to stand up and fight this devastating disease. She lead a team that rallied around her and walked with her annually in the Race for the Cure of Orange County. Please consider donating to this wonderful charity honoring Judy and her beautiful life.
