Judith Elizabeth Briggs Black, age 67, passed away in her home April 3,
2014, in Virginia City Highlands, Nevada.
Judith or Judy as she was called, was born January 26, 1947, at Balboa Naval
Hospital, San Diego, California,to Chester and Winifred Briggs. The
daughter of a career military man took Judy to live all over the world. She
attended the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of South
Carolina. She graduated with honors and a degree in Banking and Finance.
As a career business woman, Judy was instrumental in the development of card
readers which led to the development of the instant gas card system and the
instant teller system.
Judy was devoted to her dog, Jessie, and her many horses. She made repeated
trips to Europe to refine her riding and enjoyed the sport of dressage. She
was unusually talented with needlework skills and sewing which she
attributed to her mathematical ability.
Judy is survived by her husband, Brett Black of Virginia City Highlands,
Nevada, her sister, Julia Jeanne DePew of San Diego, California, and her
only niece, Brittany Jo DePew of San Jose, California.
In lieu of flowers, Judy's favorite charity was The Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society.
