IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia Murphy
Puleo
December 6, 1931 – October 16, 2024
Julia Murphy Puleo, born December 6, 1931, in Silver Spring, Maryland, passed peacefully in her sleep, with her daughter Julia by her side, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, after a two day stay in Hospice Care at Saddleback Medical Center, Laguna Hills, California.
She spent her early years in Silver Spring and Washington, DC, before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida in 1962 to raise her family. Julia moved to Pebble Beach, California in 1980, where she volunteered on the Auxiliary at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and worked with various charities. She later became a realtor, and spent several years selling homes and cultivating meaningful, long-lasting relationships with her clients. After her children graduated college, she moved to Pacific Heights in San Francisco to experience big city living for 10 years. She eventually moved back to her beloved Pebble Beach for several years, before moving in October 2020 to Assisted Living in Aliso Viejo, California to be closer to her daughter, Julia.
She was intelligent, observant, fiercely independent, ever elegant, and loved to laugh, a lot! Always poised, but ready for fun... and she had a lot of it! She always said, "laughter is the best medicine", and even her license plate read LAFGD4U. Known for her perfect hair, porcelain skin, red lips, and giant sunglasses, with a Diet Pepsi in hand, she could sit and talk and laugh for hours, in person and on the phone. She would talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime, and was truly one-of-a-kind.
Proud of her 100% Irish heritage, her one visit to Ireland was a trip she never forgot. She had the fondest memories of the little house where she stayed in Galway Bay and would talk about it often, always hoping to return one day. Even though she never returned to Ireland, she did travel the country when her grandchildren were young, visiting them during holidays.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bernice and Joseph Murphy, and four siblings, Michael Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Anna May Sullivan, and Donald Murphy. She leaves five loving children, Julia (Shane) Geivet, Theresa (Drew) Agnew, Vincent, Sheila (Rick) Kosek, and Anthony. She also leaves nine adoring grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as "Mamo": Tyler, Lexi, William, Samantha, Murphy, Jackson, Courtney, Nicholas, and Kendall. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews with whom she had a strong family connection. "Mamo" will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.
Julia's relationship with God was a private one, and per her wishes, no funeral service will be held. The family will hold a private remembrance in the springtime in Pebble Beach, CA.
