IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen Darcy
Ure
May 19, 1929 – June 2, 2024
A first generation American, born in Brooklyn, New York in 1929, Kathleen Darcy Adams-Ure was the daughter of Kathleen Darcy Horan and Elmer David Adams, who immigrated to the United States from Ireland and England, respectively. Kathleen was raised in Brooklyn, along with her two brothers, Brian and Daniel Adams.
She excelled in the classroom, graduating high school in 1947, and later graduated from Mary Immaculate Hospital, School of Nursing, Class of 1950. She proudly served in the United States Air Force as a nurse; 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Air Force Nursing Corps., stationed in Texas and England. Kathleen was assigned to the 47th Medical Group. While serving in the Air Force, Kate met her future husband, James Francis Ure. The two married shortly thereafter, and began building their family while traveling between dad's military assignments. Mom eventually retired from the Air Force to take on her most important role as a mother to her seven children.
Over the years, Kate enjoyed watching her children compete in a variety of sports including swimming, water polo, and judo. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and supported her sons' involvement with the local Boy Scouts of America. Her favorite hobbies included tennis, swimming and sailing in Newport Harbor.
Kate shared a fifty-year friendship with her dear friend Jody Clarke, and remained close with her sister in-law, Mary Ure Grimes, as well as her circle of friends whom she met in her nurse's graduating class of 1950.
Traditional family celebrations always included the legendary neighborhood backyard parties celebrating the Fourth of July, who with the Clarke family, built their love for creating lifelong family memories with the best BBQ's, firework displays, and Dad's patriotic marching band tunes playing in the background. Jody and Chic Clarke and their six children shared their mutual love for our freedom by making Jody's epic flag cake where she invited all of the kids in the neighborhood to help decorate the flag cake and some kids even took a few turns on the old Clarke ice cream maker.
Kathleen's legacy will be remembered as a mother who had a clear vision to teach the importance that Faith in God's message of love for one another was a priority. Kathleen is survived by her children; Sarah, James, Timothy, Jane, Maryann, Robert, and Michael. Her daughters in-law: Karen, Ann, Linda, and Megan Ure, and sons in-law, Richard Douglass and Jim McCann, are very much an integral part of our family, and we wouldn't be the same without their love for Mom. She has 23 grandchildren: Shana, Kathryn, Lauren, Michael, Jennifer, David, Ryan, Emily, Christian, Thomas, Andrew, Mary, Caitlin, Matthew, Sean, Weston, Stephen, Kelsey, Nicky, Luke, Lily, Daniel and Noah. Her great grandchildren include: Shane, Lila, Harrison, Luke, Bobbie, Millie Kate, Gavin, Emma, Liam, Rylie, Erin, Matthew, Owen James and Blake Marie, and soon-to-be great grandchildren, Baby Douglass and Baby Ure.
Kate selflessly continued to teach us, even in her final days, that she was praying for us. She will always be remembered as a woman who loved Jesus Christ fiercely, and continually modeled for her children and friends how her true love of Faith as a devout Catholic guided her life's work.
It is with deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks that our family acknowledges the dedicated and compassionate care given by Mila Ujimori and her Ohana Board and Care Team.
Our Mom will always be remembered as the strong matriarch of the Ure Clan who was unapologetically the stoic, straight forward, devoted woman who always led with grace and class throughout her life. We are honored to call her our Mother.
May her soul rest in peace for eternity, until we meet again.
