Obituary

Kit Kulak, known for her perseverance, intellect, and individuality, passed away on February 1, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born Leona Kit Kulak on February 22, 1931, the only child of Helen Claips and Leon Kulak, in Wilkes Barre, PA.

Upon relocating to New York State, Kit taught herself how to swim and knit, but more notably, she developed a newfound confidence and outgoing nature. She worked hard to put herself through college, ultimately earning three degrees, and graduating with honors twice. Kit dedicated many years to teaching high school before transitioning into the healthcare field as a registered nurse.

A former runner and runner-up in beauty pageants, Kit's talents included bookkeeping, cooking, free form dancing, and writing poetry. Her interests were just as varied and included tennis, hiking, travel, acting, listening to opera, and reading voraciously. She was the recipient of many proposals and was engaged to be married but once to Mario Sereni, who died tragically in 1971.

Kit took pride in, and took excellent care of, many cats over the course of her life. She also valued her friends and sought to help others achieve personal growth by finding creative ways to overcome their challenges. Some of her favorite memories were climbing a volcano in St. Kitts, hiking in Switzerland and Britain's Lake Region, and "getting lost" in Venice, Italy.

"Kit's Kool" was one of Kit's several inventions and was intended to help people remain cool during extreme heat waves. Kit donated generously to her favorite charities, which included The Humane Society, Smile Train (helping children with cleft palates), and American Atheists.

Kit was loved by her friends and will be dearly missed.
