Celebrating the Life of Kwan Yu (余浩均 February 5, 1924 – May 31, 2026)
A life beautifully lived and a race faithfully run—Kwan Yu (余浩均), age 102, quickly went home to be with the Lord from his residence on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Known affectionately and intimately as “Lo Dau” to his wife and children, and as the “Yeye” or “Kon Kon” to his grandchildren, Kwan’s life was a complete in servanthood, devotion, and joy. Born in Canton, China, to Lin Tsun (余年進) and Tse Fung Yu (余謝鳳), Kwan was preceded in death by his older sister and younger brother.
A Legacy of Love and Determination
Kwan’s greatest lifelong adventure began when he married the absolute love of his life, Fung Lin (甄鳳蓮). Together, they shared a rare and beautiful love story spanning nearly 80 incredible years. In the late 1960s, in search of greater opportunity for his family, Kwan made the brave leap to immigrate to the United States. Though he only had an elementary-level education, what he lacked in formal schooling he more than made up for with a steady, calm, and fierce determination. He successfully ran two restaurants in Michigan, working tirelessly to provide a bright future for his family. In their later years, he and Fung Lin moved to California, sharing a home and making beautiful memories with their daughter, Margaret.
Faith, Family, and the "Mahjong King"
While Kwan provided comfortably for his family, his most profound milestone came in 2023 at the age of 99, when he accepted Christ—a decision of eternal impact that brought infinite peace to his heart and joy to his family. Two years ago, his extraordinary life journey was officially recognized when he received a US Presidential Certificate letter of Honor celebrating his centennial birthday.
Kwan’s greatest pleasure was simply being with his beloved Fung Lin, closely followed by his passion for cooking and serving his family. His love language is Service - he was a man who put love into action through food. He also knew how to have fun! An avid sports fan, he and Margaret were proudly the Golden State Warriors' #1 fans forever. He absolutely cherished traveling with his children and grandchildren, creating unforgettable memories on trips to Beijing, Florida's Disneyworld, Hawaii cruises, and the legendary "Eat-N-Play-MahJong" long-weekend in San Diego. To all who knew him, Kwan was the undisputed "Mahjong King," happiest when surrounded by friends, family, and the familiar noisy shuffling of tiles at the table. His quiet spirit, warm smile, and resilient service leave behind a legacy that will inspire his family for generations to come.
Family - Kwan’s vibrant spirit lives on through his large and loving family. He is survived by:
