IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lan Ngoc
Hopkins
June 6, 1953 – November 4, 2024
On Monday, November 4, 2024, Lan Ngoc Hopkins passed away after a year long battle with cancer.
Her spiritual grace and commitment to God, Family and Humanity will be missed, but never forgotten. Lan's quite dedication to her God was expressed in her daily attendance at church, her daily prayers of the Rosary ant to the Devine Mercy and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She served in the Legion of Mary at Mission San Juan Capistrano from 2001 until COVID. In 2013, Lan moved to Laguna Woods and was a faithful member of St Nicholus Parish.
She was always there when her family needed her and she was a significant support as her brothers and sisters, and their families fled the Vietnamese war and regime change by immigrating to the United States. Their transition in this country was made decidedly better through Lan's efforts and encouragement. Lan continued to love and support her brothers and sisters in many ways. She was there when needed.
After marrying and moving from Atlanta to SanJuan Capistrano in 2001, Lan immediately began volunteering for a Catholic based Vietnamese charity in Riverside, CA and commuted 60 miles each day to participate. Later, she fed the Homeless at a shelter in Costa Mesa until 2009, when she was stricken with a disabling brain tumor. Later, she went through three brain surgeries, macular surgery, two bouts of cancer, The brain surgeries left her requiring a walker and with excruciating pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia. Yet, Lan's faith never wavered and her support for family and charity was ever present in so many ways. Thanks to her committed friend and faith warrior, Tom McCarthy, Lan received Communion daily until the day of her passing.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, James W. Hopkins, two sisters, Kim (Hien) Ngyuen, and Thao Tran, three brothers, Loi Vu, Loc (Oanh) Vu and Toan (Thuy) Vu, and many nieces and nephews.
Lan was truly a servant for God and family and will be greatly missed on this earth as she continues to serve in heaven.
