Larry Raymond Amend, aged 83, passed away on September 19, 2024 in Aliso Viejo, CA. Born on June 8, 1941 in La Junta, CO, grew up in Chico, CA and retired in Bullhead City, AZ. Larry's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service in the United States Marine Corps, and his career as a steamfitter.
Graduating in 1959, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps until 1963. His time in the military was a period of profound personal growth and left him cherishing the memories and camaraderie developed during his service.
Afterwards, through his career, he made significant contributions to the Pipefitter & Steamfitter Union in Washington State. Throughout the years, overseeing hundreds of workers, earning the nickname "Flamin Amend" for his fiery yet effective leadership style, as well as traveling extensively along the west coast until his retirement in 2013. He often expressed a desire to return to work, underscoring his passion and commitment to his profession.
Not one to sit idle, Larry loved spending time with his family and had several hobbies that he enjoyed. In his younger years he enjoyed the great outdoors with horseback riding, fishing and camping, as well as tinkering in the garage. In retirement he was an avid shopper, adept sewer, a creator of various things, but fishing was his true passion. Many of his happiest moments were spent on his boat on Mohave Lake, fishing rod in hand, reveling in the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the catch.
Larry's life journey also included significant travels and many adventures throughout his life, often reflecting on experiences with his family and many friends who were loved as family.
Larry was not deeply religious but held a personal faith in the Lord. He was a man of strong opinions and never hesitated to express his thoughts directly, a trait that was tempered by his caring spirit. Always ready to lend a hand, he was deeply appreciated.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jannie, and his children, Tamara, Troy, Kelly, Larisa, Tarasa, Francesca, and Rebekah. Affectionately known as "Papa" to his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry is also survived by his sisters, Imogene, Janice, Janet, and Shirley, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymon and Bessie.
Honoring his wishes, Larry did not want a formal service but preferred that those who knew him would remember the good times and offer a prayer in his memory. He was a generous supporter of various charitable causes throughout his life. Those wishing to honor Larry's memory can continue his legacy of kindness through contributions to their chosen charities.
Larry's life was a testament to living authentically and passionately, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
