IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laverne
Roberts
September 22, 1937 – June 3, 2025
Laverne Roberts, 87, died peacefully in Riverside, California on June 3, 2025 after bravely battling complications from pneumonia. She is survived by her sons Bryan and Mike, daughter Shelly, and grandson Luke.
Laverne left her small hometown of Roosevelt, Oklahoma to pursue academics at Texas A&M University and never looked back. While she chose marriage and starting a family over finishing school, her intellectual capacity and determination never waned. Laverne's life was marked by resilience, independence, and a deep love for her family and friends. Known as smart and capable, Laverne later earned her Real Estate Broker's License—an achievement that would shape the course of her professional years.
After marrying, Laverne moved with her husband to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shortly after the birth of their first child, the family relocated to Los Angeles, California. There she welcomed two more children. Although her marriage didn't last, Laverne forged a successful path on her own. In 1963, she began working as a receptionist at Rossmoor Leisure World in Seal Beach, Calif. Her dedication and talent quickly became evident, leading to a transfer to the Laguna Hills location where she built an impressive 33-year career. By the time she retired in the mid-1990's, she had risen to the position of Vice President of Resales—a testament to her work ethic and leadership.
Outside of work, Laverne was easy going and enjoyed a simple life in Irvine where she raised her family. She moved to Laguna Woods in 2011 and resided there until later settling in Corona Hills. She had a passion for sports and was a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Whether scorekeeping at little league games, watching her favorite teams or discussing stats with fellow fans, baseball brought her great delight throughout her life.
Laverne also cherished time spent with friends over games of bridge, poker nights filled with laughter, or long afternoons playing mah jong. She often enjoyed trips to the desert where golf outings were followed by card games by the pool—moments that blended competition with camaraderie. Even after her social groups disbanded over time, Laverne remained mentally sharp and engaged by continuing to play bridge, mah jong, and other games on her computer.
Family gatherings held a special place in Laverne's heart. She especially treasured celebrations at Roma d'Italia in Tustin—a beloved family restaurant they frequented for over five decades for birthdays and milestones alike. Being a grandmother brought her immense joy; those moments surrounded by loved ones were among her most cherished.
Laverne tended to believe life wasn't meant to be easy and she tended to be right. Amid the challenges, so much about Laverne's life reflected strength and accomplishment—from raising three children as a single mother to retiring as an executive.
She leaves behind a legacy defined by perseverance and unyielding support for her family. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
