IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence Joshua
O'Rourke Iii
November 25, 1964 – June 15, 2023
Lawrence ("Larry") Joshua O'Rourke III, born November 25, 1964 passed away in his native Los Angeles on June 15, 2023. His life was too short, but he was a memorable, enthusiastic and intelligent character whose memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
Larry was born to Lawrence Joshua O'Rourke, Jr. (deceased) and Eileen Fitzgerald O'Rourke and was brought up in the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills. He has two siblings, Thomas O'Rourke and Karen O'Rourke Haney. He attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks and the University of California at Los Angeles. He obtained his Real Estate License in 1985 and continued his education in real estate. He worked with his father in the real estate industry selling and renovating homes and eventually went out on his own selling, renovating, and developing residential properties. Growing up in the industry he had a deep knowledge of Los Angeles real estate and had a passion for homes with history both architecturally and with its occupants, especially those with old Hollywood roots. Every time family or friends were in town from areas such as Ireland or New Orleans, Larry would provide them with a top-notch tour of his hometown pointing out all the historical and celebrity homes with rich details and anecdotes for each.
Larry was a history enthusiast. He was a WWI and WWII historian and collector. The knowledge and respect he had for this period in history was remarkable. He was also fascinated by outer space and space missions, airplanes, and helicopters. He was a collector of historical books, coins, and vintage comic books. Hollywood history was of special interest to him, and he cherished classic movies and actors.
He was passionate about automobiles and automobilia. German automobiles were his favorite, but none could match his passion for his Italian Ferrari. His red Ferrari 328GTB was his pride and joy and he kept it in meticulous condition. He spent many years cruising the California Coast to the Monterey Historic Car Show in which he always won the Platinum Award in his class. He travelled to Italy to experience the ancestry of Ferrari and to drive the land in which it was established. More locally, his favorite pastime was to drive the dangerous but beautiful curves of his backyard Mulholland Drive.
Larry was an excellent photographer and always shared photos of the ocean, automobiles, war memorials, airshows, family, friends, and his beloved dog. He was the family photographer who captured all the holidays and special moments, especially as his nieces and nephews were growing up. He was so proud of each of their achievements and activities.
He loved all music from Frank Sinatra to Led Zeppelin and always had the best home and car stereo equipment and technology on which to listen to and share it. Music from the 1980's and 1990's would always stir memories and emotions from carefree times.
Larry had the ability to make friends and keep friends. He has many long-standing friendships from birth, grade school, high school, adulthood, business relationships and new friendships. He appreciated all of their love and support throughout the years, and he reciprocated.
Larry is survived by his mother, Eileen Fitzgerald O'Rourke; his stepmother, Dawn Smith O'Rourke; his brother Thomas O'Rourke, his wife Mary Margaret and their three sons Thomas James ("T.J."), Christopher, and Ryan; his sister, Karen O'Rourke Haney, her husband Bradford and their two daughters Lauren and Amelia; and many close relatives and friends.
Larry was extremely grateful to the team of doctors, nurses, and staff at Cedars Sinai Hospital for their incredible skill and care.
Larry was a presence. He was always well dressed, dapper and handsome. He was a charmer. He was nostalgic. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Larry and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
