Obituary

Lawrence Sherman Scott was born on August 22 Nd 1938 in Long Beach California. His parents were Loren and Herba Scott who also resided in Long Beach at the time. "Larry" had a sister, Patti who was four years his senior.

Larry spent his youth learning all he could about engineering and the fine art of fixing things! By the time he was in high school he had decided that he would follow his passion and become an engineer. He took a detour however when he discovered his love for the ocean. This love would remain until his last days on this earth.

Larry and his friends were part of a club known as the "Neptune Society" and they were always scuba diving. If they weren't scuba diving they were searching the waters off of Catalina Island or the Palos Verde Peninsula looking for fish to spear or lobster to catch. In his early 20's he became an open water dive instructor and later owned several diving instruction stores.

In his late 20's Larry began his journey of professionally manufacturing dive gear. This would be his career for the next fifty years. He held three separate US Patents for dive related equipment, two of which were designed to save the lives of underwater divers. Some of his products are manufactured to this day.

After marrying Cheryl Ann Robbins, also of Long Beach, they settled in the Belmont Shore area and raised three children. Eventually moving into the College Park East neighborhood of Seal Beach, Larry lived there until his death.

Lawrence Scott, also known as Larry, Scotty and most lovingly "Boompa" by his grandchildren passed away peacefully in Los Alamitos California on May 26, 2022. He was surrounded bedside by fourteen family members. Larry is survived by his children John and wife Lisa, Suzanne Chrupcala and husband Jason, Michelle Ewert, his sister Patti Magee and her extended family, grandchildren John Scott Jr., Jessica Scott, Crissy Theodore, Amy Theodore, Anthony Scott and his wife Amy, Michael Scott, Katie Chrupcala, Wyatt Ewert, Rosie Ewert, his brother in law Daniel Robbins and nephew Dan Simeon and his wife Tracy and their children.

Larry was dearly loved by his family and was respected by dozens of other friends and business acquaintances all of whom will remember him by his booming voice and relentless desire to help any of them who were in need.

Dad may you rest in peace and have fair winds and following seas…….
