Lenore Beth Macafee
May 30, 1944 – October 12, 2025

Lenore Beth Macafee passed peacefully in her sleep on October 12, 2025, in San Juan Capistrano, California, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and the challenges of dialysis.

Born on May 30, 1944, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to James Ronald Bouras and Ruth Lenore Bormann, Lenore grew up alongside her brothers, Jim and John Bouras. Bright, determined, and humble, she graduated as her high school's valedictorian—but, ever modest, was too shy to deliver the speech.

In the summer of 1963, she married her lifelong partner, James George Macafee.

Lenore began her career at Christian Life Magazine in Chicago, where she formed many cherished friendships. Later, she worked in advertising as an account executive for Compassion Incorporated—a role that took her on a tour through Southeast Asia as part of their ministry outreach.

Lenore and Jim raised their children, James Arthur Macafee and Lisa Ruth Macafee, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, before moving to Laguna Niguel, California, in 1990. There, the family ran Pet Junction, a beloved local pet supply store, from 1992 to 2002. It was hard work, but filled with the blessings of community—and with the addition of the store's parrot, Al, to the family.

Caring and compassionate by nature, Lenore had a deep love for all living things—people and animals alike. Over the years, she nurtured countless cats, dogs, rabbits, and birds, each one fortunate to be part of her care and kindness.

After "retiring," Lenore continued to dedicate herself to helping others, working as a special education aide at Laguna Hills High School. She later retired once more to care for her mother Ruth, her Aunt Arlene, and her husband Jim as their health declined—a final act of love that reflected her lifelong devotion to family.

Lenore is survived by her children, Jim and Lisa; her brothers, Jim and John; and her grandchildren, Garret Rose Macafee, Mason Garret Macafee, Rowan Macafee Persinger, and Locke Macafee Persinger. She also leaves behind her niece Jessica and her family; dear friends Marcia, Terri, Jan, Rocco, Alan, and Mary; along with many other treasured friends—and, of course, Al.

Lenore's life was one of quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
