Obituary

Lynn Elizabeth Riordan was born on June 18, 1975 to John and Arlene (Asleson) Riordan in San Diego, California. She graduated from Juniper Serra High School in 1993 and in 1997 she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Concordia University in Irvine, CA.

Lynn grew up playing sports and never stopped loving the game. Beginning at age 5, her athletic career included soccer, basketball, softball, and pool, and she excelled at all of them. At 13, she threw a no-hitter in an all-star softball game, and she once held the record for most 3-pointers in a women’s basketball game in Southern California. Her love of sports stayed with her well into adulthood, as she played in numerous softball and pool leagues. She also loved running her annual football “JR’s loser pool,” a tradition her friends and family looked forward to each year.
Lynn spent most of her career in the mortgage industry, where she wore many hats and was never afraid to learn something new. Along the way, she also spent a brief time as a substitute teacher, where she found a real passion for connecting with students in special education classrooms.

In 2008, Lynn married Nicole Bruette. Although their marriage later ended, they remained close friends throughout the years.

Lynn’s greatest blessing in life was their daughter, Dylan, and she cherished their close bond. She was Dylan’s biggest fan and never missed a chance to share her latest performance, and Dylan’s beautiful singing filled her with shining pride. Dylan was truly the light of her life.

Another role she held dear was that of Auntie Taco and she took it on with love and pride.

Lynn was impossible to miss and even harder to forget. Her humor and her joy were contagious, and she was so easy to love. She made everyone she met feel like family, befriending people so readily that her circle seemed to stretch to friends of friends of friends. Hardworking and funny, she had a gift for finding the silver lining and cheering people up when they needed it most. Those who knew her will remember how she made them feel: included, loved, and a little brighter for having been around her.

Lynn is survived by her daughter Dylan Bruette-Riordan, her mother Arlene Riordan, Sisters Laurie (Richard) Gustafson, Lisa (Tom) Cauley-Riordan, Nieces Sarah (Zach) Nelson, Jocelyn (Sammy) Herslip, and Haven Riordan, Great Niece and Nephew Sophie & Michael Nelson, her cherished friend and co-parent Nicole Bruette, and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her Father John, brother Michael, brother-in-law Mike Walz, maternal grandparents Albin & Luella Asleson, paternal grandparents- Paul & Ruth Riordan, and her dear cousin Paul Clark.
