Manuel Vidaña Contaoi, 83, passed away January 31, 2021. Born and raised in San Bernardino, CA. Attended Long Beach State where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Through his career, he and his family lived in Bilbao, Spain; Mexico City; Houston, Texas; and Little Rock, Arkansas. The home base was always California, first Long Beach and then for the last 44 years, Irvine. Fishing was his most passionate hobby, growing up fishing in the San Bernardino mountains, on the piers in Long Beach and Orange County, deep sea fishing for albacore out of San Diego, and most recently for salmon and halibut off Hippa Island in Haida Gwaii, BC. Manny, as friends and family called him, is survived by his wife of 58 years, Coletta; his children Roxanne, Greg (Deborah), and Robert (Hazel); his beloved grandchildren Kathryn, Lucas, and Oliver; his sisters Virginia and Ida (Bob), and sister-in-law, Brenda; his brothers George (Janene) and Joe (Aurora); and numerous nieces and nephews.Reunited with his parents, George and Kate; his baby daughter, Maria; his sisters Jenny and Ramona; his brothers Alphonso and Fred; his nephew David, and niece, Denise; and brother-in-law, Jim.A celebration of life will be held once people can safely gather.
