Obituary

Marcie Ann Buscher

10/25/1936 - 1/10/2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marcie Ann Buscher, who peacefully left this world on January 10, 2025, with her loving family by her side after a brief illness. Marcie was a devoted wife, a beloved mother, a cherished grandmother, a wonderful aunt, and a dear friend. She was a radiant soul whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Marcie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard L. Buscher, daughters Mary Kathleen Buscher Milhone (Kenneth), Michelle Ann Lujan (Richard), and Jennifer Susan Watson (Kenneth), grandchildren Nicholas Buscher Lujan, Sabrina Ann Lujan, Gavin Robert Watson, Hallie Ann Watson, Landon Milhone, Blake Milhone, and Aidan Milhone.

Marcie was born at home in Snow Shoe Pennsylvania on October 25, 1936. She was the 12th and last child born to Mary and George Matty. Her father worked for the New York Central Railroad for 32 years and her mother was a homemaker.

Marcie had a joyful childhood, spending her early days playing with her twin sister, Rose, and running freely in her mother's garden. She often shared fond memories of growing up without modern conveniences like running water or electricity, noting that the abundance of love from her parents and siblings made up for it all.

Marcie was raised in a small, two-bedroom home in Snow Shoe, a quaint coal-mining town in Pennsylvania near State College, home to Penn State University's main campus. She frequently reminisced about traveling to State College with her friends, where they would spend their evenings dancing and socializing with the boys.

Marcie graduated valedictorian from Coopersburg High School in 1954. Her first job was at a hosiery mill, where she skillfully sewed the seams up the back of women's stockings. Following a suggestion from her sister Rose, Marcie moved to Northern California in 1959 with her sister Barbara, where they both secured positions at Lockheed Martin. They lived in San Jose until 1963, when they relocated to Southern California. There, they found employment at TRW in El Segundo and settled in Redondo Beach.

Over Memorial Weekend in 1965, Marcie and her friends decided to take the steamship SS Catalina to Catalina Island. During their time in Avalon, they decided to go dancing at the Chi Chi Club where a charming young man, 3 years her junior, asked her to dance. Just 2 weeks later, that man, Richard (Dick) Buscher, proposed to Marcie, asking for her hand in marriage.

Marcie and Dick were married on October 2, 1965, in a nuptial mass at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach. The following year, they welcomed their first daughter, Mary Kathleen. Initially residing in Gardena, where Dick had his business, they decided to purchase a home to accommodate their growing family. Drawn to the Torrance area, they moved into their home in 1967, and welcomed their second daughter, Michelle Ann in 1968.

Marcie and Dick spent their summers on Catalina Island aboard their boat, the Marcie Ann, creating cherished memories with their daughters. In August 1979, they welcomed their third daughter, Jennifer Susan, completing their family.

In 1984, Marcie returned to work alongside her sister, Barbara, at The Aerospace Corporation, where she worked in the vault for 22 years.

After retiring from Aerospace, Marcie spent her time traveling with her daughters and their families to Catalina Island, embarking on what she called a "trip of a lifetime" to Italy with her daughter Kathy, and visiting South Bend, Indiana, with her daughter Mimi and her family where she had the unforgettable experience of watching her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football team defeat their rivals from the University of Southern California. She cherished spending the holidays at her daughter Jenny's kitchen counter, watching her three daughters work together to prepare the holiday meals she once lovingly made for them when they were young.

In February 2024, Marcie fell ill. After consulting with seven specialists over five months, she was ultimately diagnosed with ANCA vasculitis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the blood vessels. Her doctors worked tirelessly to help her fight the disease and restore her quality of life.

Marcie was hospitalized in both July and September and later transitioned to hospice care at home on October 19th. She bravely battled the illness but succumbed to it on Friday, January 10th with her family by her side. Although her family deeply mourns her loss, they find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain.

Marcie was preceded in death by her parents George Clarence Matty and Mary Elizabeth Matty (Takash), grandparents William Valentine Takash & Mary A. Takash (Rushnock), George Matthew Matty & Susan Matty (Chier), her siblings Edward Matty, Mary Matty, Emil Matty, Rudolph Matty, William Matty, James Matty, Helen Matty, Teresa Matty, Barbara Matty, Albina Matty, and her twin Rose Matty.

There will be a funeral mass at Nativity Catholic Church in Torrance, CA on Saturday, February 15th at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
