IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcus Loyde
Stewart
January 2, 1935 – April 8, 2023
Marcus Loyde Stewart, known to all as Loyde, was born to William and Elizabeth (Minnie) Stewart on January 2, 1935 in Crossville, Alabama and passed peacefully in his sleep on April 8, 2023. He was one of 15 children and a curious, hardworking, adventurous kid who worked on the family farm.
As a young man, he left the farm and ended up in Hermosa Beach California. He worked at Garrett AiResearch (now part of Honeywell Aerospace) and loved to dance which is how he met Hazel, his first wife. They raised two children, Marcus and Dain. Every chance he got Loyde would pack the family into a station wagon for adventure and visit their large extended family. On these adventures they patiently and lovingly taught their children how to ski, camp, hike and explore the great outdoors.
It was through his love of dance that he would meet Teresa at a dance in Palos Verdes. Loyde and Teresa swiftly married in 2000 and were inseparable thereafter. They were always on the go whether it was cruising the open seas or cruising in their red corvette, they were always enjoying everything life had to offer. A highlight that Loyde would often recount, even in his very last days when his memory was waning, was how he and Teresa spent a month in Paris, drove around in a sports car, and renewed their vows at Notre Dame.
He was a gentle soul with a zest for life. He loved riding his Harley and he loved sports. Loyde was a life-long golfer; but he gave it up for lawn bowling which he loved and was so very proud to be named Bowler of the Year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Stewart, his children Marcus Stewart (Carol) and Dain Stewart, eight grandchildren and his sister Mary Elizabeth Barscheski. He is also survived by Teresa's son Bill (Cecile) and was a grandfather to their three children.
Loyde had time for everyone and was loved in return by all who knew him. He truly lived his life to the fullest and when he passed away, he did so as he lived: peacefully, surrounded by his family, and with nothing left unsaid.
