Obituary
Maria Elvira Ramires passed away peacefully on August 21, 2013 at the age of 94, with her family at her side.
Maria was born on January 23, 1919, in Mazatlan, Mexico, to Pedro and Elvira de la Vega. She was the sixth of seven children. After her mother's passing, she went to Los Angeles to visit relatives, where she was introduced to Bill Ramires. It was love at first sight, and they married two months later, with him speaking no Spanish, and her speaking no English. They settled in Los Angeles and raised their family of three children. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, bake, and cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who passed away in 1979. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jorge, Ernesto, Manuel, Alejandro, Graciela, and Chito. Maria leaves behind her children, Jeannette (Larry) Hansen, Lisa Cowell, and Bill (Denise) Ramires; 8 grandchildren, Rachel, Laura, Brandy, Jesse, James, Andrew, Michael, and Hannah; 2 great-grandchildren, Max and Zoe, and relatives in the U.S. and Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church on September 5, 2013 at 8:00 am.
