Marie Christina Herrera, 89, of Huntington Beach, Ca. passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
Marie was born January 8, 1932 in London, UK to parents Jim and Alice Potter.
She took adoring care of her sister Doreen Hoffman throughout WWII, surviving the 1940 London Blitz before the family relocated to Oxford, UK.
Marie was a dance instructor when she met the love of her life Joe during a dance outside Thatcham, UK. In 1953, Marie sailed on the famous HMS Queen Mary to marry Joe 'J.D.' Herrera at Dow AFB, Bangor ME.
The couple welcomed son, Scott, in 1955 and daughter, Tracy in 1965. Marie dedicated her life to being a military spouse, joining the British Wives Club. becoming an American citizen and creating a loving home on 8 different military bases, 5 stateside and 3 in the United Kingdom.
In 1979, Marie and Joe Herrera settled in California and in 1980 J.D. retired at Los Angeles Air Force Station, El Segundo CA. Marie loved time spent with friends and family, especially her best friend Lucy. She enjoyed shopping, playing mahjong, and caring for her beloved dogs.
She worked in the wellness industry for 30 years, forming her own company St Marie's Health Products.
Marie's greatest pleasure in life was the Air Force and civilian life shared with J.D. aka The Chief.
Marie was widowed in 2012 following J.D.'s courageous five year battle with cancer.
She is survived by sister Doreen Hoffman, son Scott Herrera, daughter Tracy Morales (husband Mike Morales) and granddaughters Amelia and Mia.
Marie will be laid to rest with her loving husband J.D. at Miramar National Cemetery. The Chief will receive full military honors for his 30 years of service.
