Obituary

Marjorie Louise Blanchard, "Margie" was born December 29, 1943 in San Diego, California to Charles and Marcella Heston. She was second of five children. Donna, "Margie", William "Bill". Laura, and Terri Lynn. She is pre-deceased by Laura Leigh and Terri Lynn.

Marjorie was born at Mercy Hospital and lived in El Cajon, California until moving with her family to South Dakota at the age of 15.After graduating from Rapid City High School in 1962, Marjorie returned to her beloved beaches of San Diego and started a career as a hairdresser. Her only son Jason Lee Beckner was born at Grossmont Hospital on June 19th, 1971.

Marjorie met the love of her life in 1974 when she took a culinary class taught by Robert Lee Blanchard. They instantly fell in love and were married on March 7th, 1979 in a small chapel in Las Vegas. They bought a home in La Mesa, California and raised their combined family which included Robert Blanchard Jr., Michelle Blanchard, and Jason Beckner.

In addition to being a mother, Margie enjoyed working with pottery and stained-glass. Her stained-glass windows were beautiful and decorated the Blanchard Family home in the Mount Helix section of La Mesa. She continued her artistic endeavors late in life and took up painting in her 70's and did not stop until her health did not allow her to continue.

After her children grew up and left home, Marjorie earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Speech Communication with honors. She graduated with a special award from the National Honor Fraternity, PHI THETA KAPPA. After teaching at various Colleges and Universities around San Diego, Marjorie joined private industry for the next 15 years.

She worked at Right Management Associates helping newly unemployed Corporate Executives develop the skills necessary to make mid- life career changes. Helping others during one of the most difficult time in their lives was extremely rewarding to Marjorie and she loved being of service to others.

Another passion of Marjorie's was working and volunteering for the Polycystic Kidney Foundation where she was the San Diego Regional Chapter President and yearly Walk Coordinator. She was deeply committed to raising money for this disease, which took her Father from her when she was a child.

After retiring, Bob and Marjorie started attending the Del Mar Race Track and developed a whole new set of friends. Marjorie was warm, friendly, and dressed to the nines. And though she never placed a bet, she had a blast visiting with all of the "race rats" and playing solitaire. Her humor was warm and inviting and she always mixed well with everyone, from the "high rollers" to the ten cent superfecta players.

Marjorie died peacefully at Sharp Hospital in San Diego, California. Valiantly fighting the disease she worked so hard and to find a cure for. In lieu of flowers, please donate money to the PKD Foundation at:
