Marlene Phyllis Pringle, passed away in her Laguna Woods home on the 10th of July, 2020. She is survived by her son Barry Pringle, Jr., Daughter-in-law Diane, and granddaughters Haley and Kylie. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Collins, niece and nephew, Tracy and Gary, and their families.
Marlene was born April 26, 1940 in London, England.Born to George and Elsie Jenkinson.
She met her husband-to-be while working in London, a northerner named Barry Pringle.Despite having great difficulty understanding anything he said due to the strong difference in accents, the two fell in love and later married at St. John's Church, Wembley in March of 1958.She had a double wedding with her sister Evelyn and the event made the local newspaper, as did their silver wedding anniversary, twenty five years later. In 1971, the two had a baby boy, and named him Barry, Jr.
In late 1988, Barry Sr. accepted a new job opportunity to work abroad, and the family packed up and moved to sunny California. It was shortly after that the family expanded when they bought a Silky Terrier and named her 'Taz'.A devoted animal-lover her whole life, Marlene would take great pleasure in walking Taz around the neighbourhood in the Californian sunshine.
Even though she was a London girl at heart, Marlene quickly acclimatized to America by picking up country and western dancing.Along with a quite reluctant Barry, Sr., she joined the 'Country Nights' dance club, and the pair could often be found line dancing to 'Achy Breaky Heart' and other such country classics at the various dancing venues.Marlene soon expanded on her own into clogging (this is where Barry, Sr. drew the line), even winning competitions including 1st prize in some of the clogging events held around the state.Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland were just two of the regular venues she could be found happily clogging away.
During her working career in the states, Marlene worked as an executive assistant, office manager and computer programmer; developing e-commerce software at a time when it was still in its infancy. After retiring, she continued programming as a hobby, and particularly enjoyed web development.
Marlene was widowed in 2001, and moved from Aliso Viejo shortly afterwards to be close to her son and his family in Ladera Ranch. From there she moved to Laguna Woods in 2014.It was here that she very much enjoyed the numerous social events and get-togethers that the community had to offer. It's also where she continued her great love of dancing, and was often found on a regular basis at the various dancing events in the local clubs.
She was always an extremely creative individual, and one of her most loved artistic outlets was painting.Marlene worked mostly in oils and painted still lifes, but being the ever inquisitive person she was, was recently in the process of switching to digital painting using her new iPad.
Her creative endeavours didn't stop with the visual arts; she also had a flair for creative writing and poetry. She would often entertain the family with her observational and witty poems about various relatives and friends. To be chosen as the subject for one of her poems was quite an honour. It was also quite concerning as it was never guaranteed that they would be particularly flattering. But they were always created with nothing but love for the subject, and any edge they might have had would always be eased by her tongue-in-cheek wit and good intentions.
Marlene was always someone who liked to be up to date on all the latest trends and happenings in the world. It was only very recently that she was delighted to discover TikTok, and enjoyed many evenings watching her grand daughter Kylie performing in her regular video posts. And true to her ever curious and adventurous personality, was even considering starting her own account so she could join in on the fun.
Marlene was greatly loved by many and will be forever missed. Her humour, open heart, creative and adventurous nature has touched so many, and will only continue to provide the fondest of memories and funniest of anecdotes long after her passing.
Marlene will be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea, off the coast of Orange County, Ca.
