Obituary

Martha Maria Aguilar, (90) passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in the comfort of her own home in Laguna Hills, CA, under hospice care, with her loving family by her side. She was born Martha Maria Avila in La Paz, Honduras on January 8, 1934 to her mother Manuela Avila and father Manuel Bustillo. She was the older sister to her only brother Roberto Avila. Martha left Honduras to come to the United States in 1967. She first settled in North Hollywood, CA and started a job at the famous Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. It was there that she crossed paths with celebrities such as Elvis Presley and even had the honor to tend to President Nixon's bed. Martha was quickly promoted to supervisor of the five star hotel and worked there until meeting her future husband and love of her life, Larry Aguilar. Larry and Martha were happily married in 1972 and together raised Martha's daughter Rocio and Larry's son Jim. Martha attended Cerritos College and obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant degree. She then began her nursing career in Leisure World as a caretaker in which she dedicated 25 years of her life to caring for the elderly. Martha had a total of five grandchildren, Kailyn, Karina, Natalia, Xavier and Gianna, who were her pride and joy. Martha was known for her unwavering devotion to her family and her compassionate nature towards others. Her warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew her. Whether it was through her professional work as a caretaker or her role as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Martha always put the needs of others before her own. In her spare time, Martha enjoyed shopping, watching her favorite TV shows and cooking the most delicious homemade dishes for her family. Throughout her life, Martha embodied strength, resilience, and grace in the face of adversity as she battled cancer for nearly seven years. Martha is survived by her daughter Rocio, son Jim, her brother Roberto Avila, and five grandchildren: Kailyn, Karina, Natalia, Xavier and Gianna. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and the many whose lives she touched.
