Obituary

Mary Margaret Belna, a longtime resident of Laguna Woods, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the age of 95. Mary and her identical twin sister Margaret Mary were born on October 29, 1924 in Los Angeles, California to Mary and Frank Kashuba.

After graduating from Catholic Girls High School in 1942, Mary and Margaret enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II as WAVES in Washington DC. After the war, Mary flew for several years as a stewardess with United Airlines. Mary later joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, where she served as the head secretary of the Norwalk and Long Beach branch offices until her retirement in 1985.

She was married to James Belna, Jr for 59 years until his death in 2013. Mary is survived by her sister Margaret Van Ison of San Juan Capistrano; daughters Alison Arbenz (Andrew) and Helyn Muolo (Richard); son James M. Belna (Marilynne); grandchildren Stephanie, Thomas, and Alex; great-grandchildren Dominic and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Lois and Betty and brother Roger.

After her retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling to all parts of the world. Her family was her greatest joy, and she considered her lifelong relationship with her twin sister Margaret to be her most special blessing.

Mary will be at rest with her husband James at Riverside National Cemetery. A funeral Mass and celebration of life will held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's name to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004.
