Obituary

Mary Rose Waken, the last of six daughters, was born January 1, 1925, to Fadwa and John Waken in Enid, Oklahoma. and peacefully passed into eternity in Laguna Woods on April, 23rd at 97 years young. She attended St. Joseph's Academy and was graduated from Enid High School. She enlisted in the newly formed Women's Army Corps (WACS) during World War II and upon discharge was graduated from the University of Kansas in their first class of Occupational Therapists. She was employed by the Veterans Administration to set up Occupational Therapy departments in VA hospitals throughout the Mainland and Hawaii. In 1982, she retired from the VA and moved to Leisure World in California, where she had an active life with many of her family, friends and acquaintances.

A devout Catholic, Mary Rose was a member of St. Nicholas Parish in Laguna Woods. She married Joseph Boulder in 2000, and together they enjoyed extensive travel throughout the world. Mary Rose was a fervent fan of duplicate bridge and was known to play several sessions each week at Leisure world. She was a lover of good music, good friends and good cuisine, and was always ready to join in any social or philanthropic activity. She was predeceased by Joseph in 2015, and is survived by her brother, Dr. John K. Waken of Arcadia, dozens of nieces and nephews, and many friends. A Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday June 1st at 10am at San Francisco Solano Catholic Church in Rancho Santa Margarita, followed by interment in the Waken Family plot in Enid, Oklahoma.
