Our beloved Megan Elizabeth Szabo, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, passed into the arms of our Lord on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the young age of 19 — long before she had a chance to truly blossom.
Megan was born at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas with her big brother and life-long BFF Matt immediately by her side. Megan called Matt "Treal" and he affectionately referred to her as "Meggy" and "Mookie" — as did many others who knew her well. Megan and Matt had a special bond and enjoyed doing everything together with seemingly endless laughter. At times, it even seemed as if they had their own dictionary (their favorite word was 'mmmm')! Matt was her confidant and she looked up to him.
Megan certainly experienced a full life during her short time with us. Growing up she tried soccer, dance, volleyball, golf, tennis, and horseback riding. Megan also attended summer camps at Kickapoo and Sierra Vista. Despite all that, did we mention her favorite sport was SHOPPING?!She had a keen eye and passion for fashion. Megan had a unique style that others admired and was a wish-list making master!
She moved to California her freshman year of high school and quickly became a California Girl. She loved the beach, the ocean, music, movies, animals, fashion, jewelry and most of all shopping! Her favorite musician was The Weeknd and her favorite colors were pink and purple. She graduated high school from Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education and her future plans were to study radiology and work in the medical field.
Meggy loved to go on vacation. In addition to Texas, she had the opportunity to explore places like the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Cabo, Jamaica, Hawaii, Louisiana, Colorado, Utah, Grand Cayman Islands, Lake Tahoe and lots of places in California like Yosemite, Big Bear, Pebble Beach, Carmel, Big Sur, San Francisco, Alcatraz, Half Moon Bay, Los Angeles and Orange County.
Megan was known for her caring, free-spirited personality. People were drawn to her even if they didn't know her. She loved to volunteer and was an avid supporter of animal rights. Meggy was planning a trip to South Africa to volunteer at a monkey and wildlife rehabilitation center. Megan was also very philosophical and curious, always asking questions to better understand what made people tick and get to the meaning of life.
Meggy was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her and will be greatly missed. When you think of Megan, please remember her smile that would light up a room, stunning eyes, unique style, and love of animals. Celebrate her in your memories and live life to the fullest.
We will see you soon Megan, and in the meantime, watch over our family and save a seat for us! You were our angel on earth and now our angel in heaven.
Meggy is survived by her mother Liz Pires, father Les Szabo, step-dad Luis Pires, brother Matt Szabo, grandparents Jerry and Cecilia Harrison, and Maria Szabo; step-grandparents Maria and Humberto Pires; uncles Jeff Harrison, Jerrod Harrison, Rick Szabo and Tom Townsend; aunts Cheri Harrison, Belinda Harrison, Penny Szabo and Marian Townsend; cousins Abi Harrison and Ana Harrison, Cooper Harrison and Nicholas Harrison; Vayle Townsend, Lydia Townsend and Lance Townsend; step-brothers Michael Pires and Stephen Pires; step-uncles George Pires and John Pires; step-aunt Sue Pires; step-cousins Malia Pires, Derek Pires, Sophia Pires and Luke Pires; Godmother Monique Fullbright, numerous loving great-aunts, great-uncles, more cousins and other extended family members; her boyfriend Skylar Romo; and her adorable dogs, Koda and Mika.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Megan's name to a charity.
Megan's love for animals was matched only by her hatred of cruelty against them. If you'd like to honor her spirit and help fight animal cruelty, please consider donating in her name to Austin Pets Alive! by clicking this link: https://www.austinpetsalive.org/champion-donations/?kwofrid=JF4WOB8
