January 2, 2006 – October 5, 2025

With hearts heavy yet full of love, we remember Micah Slentz,  a compassionate young man whose life, though too short, left a bright mark on all who knew him.

Micah was born on January 2, 2006. From an early age, he exhibited an earnest spirit and a generous heart. Building upon values instilled by his family, Micah devoted himself to causes that uplifted others. When he was just six, he and his father Sequoia co-founded Play Well Africa, a nonprofit through which Micah helped to bring LEGO® sets to children in Uganda and beyond,  giving joy, opportunity, and hope to young learners who might otherwise have had none.  Because of his vision and dedication, thousands of children have been given tools to explore, build, and imagine.

In local circles, Micah was recognized as one of OC Family's "Whiz Kids",  a testament to his intellect, energy, and community presence.  He was known by friends and acquaintances for his kindness, his respect (always addressing others with courtesy), and his readiness to help. In news coverage of his passing, many referred to him as "altruistic, genuine, principled",  praise that echoes how he lived.

Beyond his philanthropic work, Micah was a son, brother, friend, and student. He filled his days with learning, with caring for those around him, and with dreams for the future. To his family, he was a ray of light, a source of pride, love, and hope.

Micah is survived by his Mother Leslie, brother Logan, and by those who loved him most deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Sequoia Slentz, whose legacy he carried forward through Play Well Africa and through his own warmth and purpose.

In this time of sorrow, we hold on to the gifts Micah left behind: the smiles of children he touched, the lives his service enriched, the example of a young life given in love, and the memory of his bright spirit. Though he has gone from our sight, his influence remains alive,  in the arms of those he helped, in hearts that remember him, in work that continues in his name.

We invite all who knew him,  family, friends, colleagues, and those touched by his giving,  to join in remembering Micah. Share stories, light candles, continue the work he began, and carry his spirit forward. May Micah's life be celebrated in the kindness we show to one another, the hope we give, and the joy we spread.
